Striking Uncertainty At The Stadium Of Light: Star Striker Hands In Transfer Request?

BBC Correspondant Leon Mann has reported that Asamoah Gyan has handed in a transfer request amidst reports that The Black Cats are chasing Peter Crouch.

It has been one hell of a summer for Sunderland as they have welcomed tonnes of new faces through the doors and seen a few leave. Bruce has been busy shoring up all areas of the pitch but will be incredibly reluctant to let star striker Asamoah Gyan.

The news, appearing the BBC live feed for transfer deadline day, will be met by a groan by all Wearsiders as they would be loathe to lose their only established Premier League goal scorer.

There have been heavy rumours of Peter Crouch signing for Sunderland and would likely pair Frazier Campbell up front should the Ghanaian international leave but losing Gyan would be a bitter blow.

Sunderland fans will be hoping the news turns out to be false and Gyan stays despite their relatively disappointing start to the season. They suffered from the loss of Darren Bent and would suffer again of Gyan was on his way.

If this is true, where is Gyan off to? Who has bid for him and would Crouch be an adequate replacement?
