Manchester City supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 success over Championship promotion contenders Cardiff City on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s men earned a last 32 clash against the Bluebirds having got the better of fellow Premier League outfit Burnley in the preceding round, and they rarely looked in trouble against Neil Warnock’s side in South Wales on Sunday. Goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling in the first half at the Cardiff City Stadium secured a comfortable victory for the Citizens, who remain in contention for the quadruple this season.
Thus, there have been many delighted City fans in the Tavern in the last few days, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that their club are eyeing up a stunning last-gasp move for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.
The 26-year-old played a significant part in the Foxes’ incredible Premier League title-winning success back in 2015/16, netting 17 goals and laying on ten assists, and while things didn’t quite go to plan last term, his tally of eight goals and eight assists this time round suggests that he is beginning to rediscover his best form.
And with Leroy Sane out for a lengthy period of time due to an injury sustained against Cardiff on Sunday, it appears that Guardiola is seeking to compensate for that by reportedly launching a mega money move for the Algeria international.
Thus, a stunning move could well be in the offing for our resident City fans, several of whom are sincerely hoping that their side can indeed get a deal done in the last knockings of the window.
Landlord’s verdict: Riyad Mahrez didn’t enjoy the best of seasons last time round, but the Leicester City winger certainly looks to be back to his best this term.
The 26-year-old has scored eight goals and laid on eight assists for the Foxes to help them to seventh place in the Premier League, and it’s form which has reportedly attracted the attention of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
And that’s because the runaway leaders are reportedly sizing up a sensational move for the Algeria international, with the recent injury to Leroy Sane possibly a reason for the club’s desire to bring Mahrez to the club, in a bid to compensate for the German’s time on the sidelines.
But with little over 24 hours of the window left, it very much remains to be seen whether City can get a deal done for the influential ace.
