It’s not just Steve McClaren’s dodgy Dutch accent that has been attracting attention during the former England Manager’s stint in the Eredivisie.
McClaren’s former charge Luuk de Jong recently sparked a bidding war and it appears that FC Twente defender Douglas is about to follow suit with a host of Premier League clubs being linked with the commanding centre back.
The Sun are reporting that Newcastle, Fulham and West Ham have all tabled bids of £3.5 million for the Brazilian.
At a muscular 6ft 4″ Douglas looks to have all the physical attributes needed in the Premiership with solid aerial ability and a decent touch its unsurprising that the big Brazilian is not short of admirers as he enters the final year of his contract.
As West Ham attempt to once again establish themselves as the Premiership club they believe themselves to be it’s no surprise that the Hammers would look to strength their squad and Douglas look an ideal candidate, however with competition from two established Premiership clubs its difficult to see how they’d get their man.
After their impressive season Newcastle would surely be Douglas’ club of choice. Alan Pardew’s men did look light of defensive options at the back end of last season, with injuries to key defenders derailing the Magpies dreams of Champions League football and Douglas could offer the cover they lacked.
Even in the final year of his contract £3.5 million for a 24 year-old with the FC Twente defender’s skill set seems too cheap, meaning the winner in the race for Douglas’ signature may well prove to be the club willing to up their offer to a more realistic level.Like what the TT have on offer?
