Serie A Champions …Juventus are looking to the talents in the Premiership this summer to strengthen their squad in preparation for Champions League football next term.
According to The Mirror, one of the players being touted as a possible purchase is Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa.
The French midfield dynamo has had an exceptional season at the North East club since recovering from a broken leg, so much so that he has been named by France coach Laurent Blanc in his preliminary Euro 2012 squad. Inter Milan are also thought to be tracking him.
Other players rumoured to be on Juve’s shopping list are Arsenal hit-man Robin Van Persie, Liverpool’s controversial striker Luis Suarez and Manchester City wanderer Carlos Tevez.
It seems the Turin club’s sporting director Fabio Paratici has been earning his money recently as the same Mirror article reports he has watched Chelsea twice last month, as the club monitor Blues trio Salamon Kalou, Raul Meireles and Bratislav Ivanovic.
You have to applaude the ambition of Juventus. Their shopping list pretty much consists of the star players of the biggest Premiership clubs. Obviously the big draw for them is the fact that Juve will be enjoying Champions League football next season, which is something every professional footballer wants to experience.
I think that maybe Juventus might be a possible destination for Arsenal’s Van Persie next season depending on whether or not the Gunners qualify for the Champions League themselves this season. The striker would certainly not come cheap, but the Mirror article reports Juventus are willing to spend £30m on one world class player to help them make an instant impact in the Champions League, and I would suggest Van Persie definitely fits that remit.
The Chelsea trio they are looking is interesting. Out of the three I would suggest Ivanovic would be the least likely to be released by the London club. With respect to Kalou and Meireles I would theorise that if the right offer came in, Roman may consider it. Both have played well for the blues this season in parts but I think both have problems with consistency.
Liverpool’s Suarez has divided opinion this season. He undoubtedly has ability but has not scored enough this season. However he has improved recently and I think he will most likely ‘come good’ next season. Dalglish is desperately trying to build Liverpool into a force in the Premiership and I think selling Suarez would be a step in the wrong direction. For this reason I think he would be unlikely to be allowed to leave.
As for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, I think we all can see that the Argentine is totally committed to the Manchester club and would never do anything to possibly affect the success of the club. He is a blue through and through and his respect for the fans and his manager Roberto Mancini really bring a tear to my eye.
Unfortunately in my opinion I think Newcastle United are the club most suseptable to losing talented players this summer. They still have every chance to secure Champions League football next season themselves, however the European heavyweights seem to be circling after the clubs exploits this season and if the big offers come in for the likes of Ben Arfa, Cisse and Cabaye this summer I think they may find it hard to turn them down. It would be a shame in my opinion but history seems to back this up, with the sale of Carroll to Liverpool.
