Tottenham fans are almost expecting the inevitable this summer. Welsh wizard Gareth Bale has been in outstanding form all season and everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern thinks Real Madrid will step up their interest in the 23-year-old who has emerged as the hottest prospect in world football during the last few seasons.
However news reported from The Guardian has left some Tottenham fans positive about their future after manager Andre Villas-Boas stated that Bale is certain to remain with the club should they secure Champions League football next term.
Spurs are currently sat in fifth place, only one point behind Chelsea and two behind arch-rivals Arsenal after their brilliant 3-1 victory over the former Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend. If the club were unable to secure Champions League football next season Villas-Boas admits that they could struggle to hang onto the former Southampton man.
When asked if he thought that Bale would stay if Champions League was guaranteed, the Portuguese tactician said: “I think so. That’s the information that I have from the club. It has come from the club.
“The club is committed to keeping the best assets,” he added. “That’s the only way that we can ensure that we are in the top four every year. Gareth is part of that project bearing in mind that he has been amazing this season. Hopefully, we can develop him to a greater extent. We get the buzz from working with great players and Gareth has developed into a great player, so I couldn’t be happier.”
Tottenham travel to relegation threatened Wigan Athletic this weekend as they look to continue their assault on fourth place.
