Tottenham supporters have been pretty quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side only muster a 1-1 draw at struggling Southampton on Sunday, thus meaning they missed the chance to move ahead of Liverpool into fourth place in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the Argentine’s former employers having won three of their preceding four league games, alongside a routine success over AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup. Yet the North London outfit weren’t at their best at St Mary’s on Sunday, with Davinson Sanchez’s own goal giving the hosts the lead, only for Harry Kane to level up proceedings three minutes later to earn a point for Spurs, although it wasn’t enough to see them move above Liverpool into fourth place.
Consequently, there have been many frustrated Tottenham fans in the Tavern in the last few days, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, which suggests that Inter Milan are contemplating a summer move for Spurs star Erik Lamela.
The 25-year-old made the move to North London back in 2013 after impressing at Roma, and has since gone on to play 133 times for Pochettino’s side, bagging 19 goals and laying on 33 assists in that time.
However, the Argentina international only returned to first team action back in November after over a year out with a hip injury, yet he has since appeared in every Premier League game to suggest that he remains a key part of Pochettino’s plans.
Nonetheless, recent reports suggest that Inter Milan are eyeing up a summer move for Lamela in a bid to bolster their own attacking options, a move they seemingly feel they could pull off given that the club’s director of football Walter Sabatini was the man who brought the 25-year-old to Roma back in 2011.
Thus, a summer reunion with Sabatini could well be in the offing for the Spurs star.
Landlord’s verdict: Erik Lamela missed over a year of football due to a hip problem prior to featuring for Tottenham against Leicester City back in November, and he has since appeared in every Premier League game to underline his importance to manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Nonetheless, Italian giants Inter Milan are reportedly eyeing up a summer move for the 25-year-old as they look to bolster their ranks and plan for the future, and they will hope that director of football Walter Sabatini can play a huge part in their pursuit.
And that’s because he was the one who brought Lamela to Roma back in 2011, something the Nerazzuri are hoping he can replicate in the coming summer.
But given Lamela’s slow re-introduction back into the Spurs team, a move away this summer appears unlikely, but is certainly not out the question.
