Arsenal finally got their season off and running with a 3-1 win over West Ham yesterday.

After two successive losses to City and Chelsea, new boss Unai Emery was desperate for the three points yesterday, although at first, it didn't come easy.

After an opening goal from Marko Arnautovic it seemed like Arsenal might be up to their usual tricks but thankfully for the Gunners, Nacho Monreal levelled the game up five minutes later and in the second-half, the Gunners were too much for West Ham.

We're only three games into the season but summer signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who spoke out following the side's loss to Chelsea last week, is beginning to emerge as a key player for Arsenal and put in a strong performance against West Ham on Saturday.

The Breakdown

Following the injury to Laurent Koscielny, the retirement of Per Mertesacker and the poor form of Shkodran Mustafi, Arsenal needed a strong commanding centre-back.

While he may not have had a great year for Dortmund, Sokratis was initially viewed as a solid but not amazing signing.

However, as we have seen in the first three games of the season, it seems like have found not just a good player but a much-needed leader for a team that at times, crumbles under pressure.

While it's unclear how much longer Laurent Koscielny will be out for, when he returns, he may just have a new defensive partner.

Mustafi has been average this season and with Sokratis performing so well, it must be the German who is benched when Koscielny returns.
