Sunderland boss plots raid upon West Ham

James CollinsSam Allardyce has barely got his feet under the table at Sunderland and already punters in the Transfer Tavern are speculating as to who his first signings could be.

It is perhaps unsurprising that the landlord in the Tavern has apparently read an article in the Daily Mirror which claims West Ham defender James Tomkins will be his first January transfer target.

Allardyce worked with the 26-year-old during his time with the Hammers and clearly thinks he would assist Sunderland in their quest for Premier League survival.

The Black Cats are rooted to the foot of the Premier League and Allardyce replaced the departing Dick Advocaat last week after a four month absence from the game.

One Sunderland fan playing on his smartphone thinks that Tomkins would be a shrewd acquisition for the club could they pull the move off. He thinks his Premier League experience would prove invaluable as the Black Cats look to climb away from the foot of the league and secure survival.

Sunderland fans, Would you welcome Tomkins? Would he get a game at central defence for the club? Let us know in the comments!
