Sunderland supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern may have been disappointed with the recent sale of Connor Wickham to Crystal Palace, but reports from the Shields Gazette claim the Black Cats are on the verge of a double midfield signing.
Dick Advocaat is confident of bringing in French defensive midfielder Yaan M’Vila from Russian side Rubin Kazan, as well as QPR midfielder Leroy Fer by the end of the week.
Both deals are likely to be season-long-loans, with a view to permament transfers at the end of the campaign.
France international M’Vila has a controversial reputation, having been involved in a big bust up with management during his time in Russia.
He is however considered to be a big talent, and he could turn out to be a very shrewd purchase for the Mackems, as they aim to maintain their Premier League status next season.
Dutch international Fer meanwhile was considered to be one of the few bright spots in what was a dismal season for QPR last term.
Advocaat said: “We are where we are, but I think the chairman is doing great.
“He has been really great in terms of the support he has given us, because it is not just about bringing players in, he has also had to work with some of the things that have been here for the last couple of years (wages and outstanding transfer payments).
“So it’s not just about what we do now, it’s also about working through some of the things that were already here.
“He is very willing to do everything he can for the team and he has been very positive whenever we have talked.”
A group of Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern over by the pool table feel this would be a fantastic bit of business, and would help solidify the club’s midfield – something that was needed.
