Our resident Sunderland fans have not had much to shout about around the Tavern in recent weeks and it appears that they might have another problem as Emanuele Giaccherini revealed that he has no intention to return to the Stadium of Light.
The 30-year old is currently on loan at Serie A side Bologna and recently admitted that he wants to remain with the Italian outfit beyond his season-long loan deal.
Giaccherini joined the Black Cats back in 2013 and although he initially impressed, his relatively inconsistent form and series of injuries saw the winger loan to Bologna at the beginning of the current campaign.
Bologna have endured a difficult season until recently, with the Italian winger playing a key role in helping his side to rise from the relegation zone, having netted 3 goals in 10 league starts, including a late winner against giants AC Milan in a 1-0 win at the beginning of the month.
When he was recently asked by Italian press about his future, he stated that he is keen to make his move to Bologna permanent, with one eye firmly fixated on receiving a place in Italy’s national side for the upcoming European Championships.
“We’re [Bologna] aiming for more than just escaping the relegation zone. My personal objective is Euro 2016, but that’s still a long way off. The Azzurri shirt is like a second skin for me. My future? I want to win Euro 2016 and stay here at Bologna,”
Our landlord believes that Giaccherini is the type of player that Sunderland could really do with at the moment and that they might live to regret their decision to loan him out.
