Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern have been alerted to the news that Argentine midfielder Ricky Alvarez is currently training with Velez Sarsfield in his home country as the club continue to debate his future, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The Black Cats signed attacking midfielder Alvarez on a season-long loan on deadline day of the summer transfer window, with a view to an £8 million permanent deal. It was written into his contract that his transfer would become permanent if Sunderland were to avoid relegation last season.
However, despite doing so, Sunderland have had to raise their voice in somewhat of a brawl with Alvarez’s former Italian employers. Sunderland continue to argue that Inter’s reluctance to support surgery for Alvarez’s injury constituted a breach within the 27-year old’s contract.
Punters at the bar weren’t impressed with Alvarez, who scored once and provided no assists in all competitions for Dick Advocaat’s side last season, and hope they can avoid a permanent signing.
FIFA have yet to reach a decision regarding the player’s future and whether the Black Cats will have to sign the Argentine international or not.
