Sunderland look to Hutton to solve right back crisis

Tottenham right back Alan Hutton is set to join Sunderland for £5 million today, according to the Daily Mirror, as Steve Bruce looks to solve his right-back problems at the Stadium of Light.

The Scottish international, 25, travelled to the north east yesterday for talks and has become Sunderland’s main target after they called off a deal to sign Aston Villa full-back Habib Beye yesterday.

Hutton was previously linked with a move to West Ham and has struggled with injuries at White Hart Lane since a £9 million move from Rangers two years ago. Hutton has only started one game for Spurs this season, with Vedran Corluka the first choice right back for Tottenham.

Steve Bruce has made it a priority to bolster his defence in this transfer window, already adding centre back Matthew Kilgallon from Sheffield United in January. Sunderland have already ended his interest in Manchester City striker Benjani.

Is there any substance to this and should this rumour Fly or Die?
