Sunderland looks to Cabanas after deal stalls

Having failed in an attempt to bring Kevin Kuranyi to the Stadium of Light, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has turned his attention to Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas.

Bruce had been looking to snap up Kuranyi from Schalke and were willing to pay £4m for the German international although he would be available on a free in the summer but balked at his £70k a week wage demands and now will attempt to bring Cabanas in on loan from Mexican side Club America according to The Mirror.

Cabanas, who is known to be temperamental, has undeniable qualities on field and is good in the air as well as good shooting with both feet, these skills have seen Cabanas rise to the top of the Mexican domestic scoring charts, further encouraging Bruce who has tracked the 29 year old since his tenure as Wigan manager.

Cabanas will be looking to sharpen up before the World Cup and knows a move to England will give him an ideal opportunity to do so as he fights to lead the line for his country in South Africa.

Although the initial deal will be a loan, Bruce will have the chance to make the move permanent if Cabanas impresses something he is sure the forward can do as he looks to shake up his striking options.
