The Sunderland fans who are gathered at the jukebox selecting some tunes are discussing reports that a former fan favourite has ruled out a return to the club.
The Sunderland Echo is reporting that Niall Quinn was rumoured to be the club’s new chief executive but no approach has been made for the former player to return.
A return to Sunderland would be highly unlikely for Quinn who left the club due to a fractured relationship between himself and owner Ellis Short, although the pair have recently put their issues to one side and are good friends once more.
Since leaving Sunderland, Quinn has carved himself a career as a TV pundit and co-commentator for Sky and is unlikely to jeopardise that career in favour of rejoining the club.
Sunderland are on the lookout for a new chief executive following the resignation of Margaret Byrne, after the way she dealt with the Adam Johnson saga.
The Sunderland fans in The Tavern are not surprised that Quinn will not be making his return to the club, an just want the whole situation to be resolved as soon as possible!
