Sunderland revive interest in experienced Serie A striker

DoumbiaThe Sunderland fans in The Transfer Tavern are having a friendly game of darts are discussing reports of them renewing their interest in a striker plying his trade in Serie A.

The Sunderland Echo is reporting that Sam Allardyce is set to make a move for Seydou Doumbia as he looks to strengthen his attacking options for the club’s fight for survival.

Reports suggest that Doumbia would favour a move to the Premier League after he recently turned down a move to the Chinese Super League.

With Allardyce desperately short of quality players, Doumbia would fit that mould- especially if he can replicate the form shown during his time in Russia with CSKA Moscow last season, during a productive loan spell where he scored eleven goals.

With the window due to close on Monday and French side Marseille also reportedly interested in the striker, Sunderland will have to make their move sooner rather than later to add to their struggling squad.

As for the Sunderland fans in The Transfer Tavern they feel that Doumbia is just the type of player the club should be looking to bring in if they are serious about maintaining their Premier League status.
