Well, he was a winger over here, but Inter Milan seem to think he’s a ball-playing centre midfielder. Maybe that’s why he is on his way out of the San Siro exit door.
Sulley Muntari, the 26-year old Ghanaian star, was catapulted from Portsmouth to Inter in a single season on the south coast where he won the F.A. Cup with ‘Arry. He ended up with an £11m move to ‘the cherished ones’ in the summer of 2008, you could say he left while the going was still good.
Now it seems that his way back out of Serie A is the same way he left it first time round whilst with Udinese, with a move to the ‘promised land’ of the Premier League.
However, whilst the Italian press are all over the possibility that ‘Arry is more than just plain interested in bringing Muntari to White Hart Lane and renewing the partnership that worked so well at Fratton Park, it may well not be the number one landing spot for Muntari.
Steve Bruce has been on the end of speculation linking him with a loan bid to add even more width, creativity and pace to their counter-attacking game. Talking of reuniting partnerships, Sunderland’s big money summer signing, fellow Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan could well be a vital tool in convincing his countryman to choose up north come decision time.
Besides, if Sulley Muntari goes to the Stadium of Light, it will give Gyan someone who he can partner him in his goal celebration dance without looking like a complete berk!
