Sunderland have been one of the form teams in League One this season, with promotion to the Championship looking extremely likely.
The Black Cats have arguably the strongest squad in the division and a manager that knows how to get the best out of his players, so things are definitely heading in the right direction. Although, it appears as if they’ll struggle to secure a January target, as according to The Daily Echo (via HITC), Jermain Defoe has a big future at Bournemouth.
Sunderland owner Stewart Donald recently revealed on BBC Radio Newcastle that he tried to sign Jermain Defoe from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.
And, the English businessman also suggested that The Black Cats could make another loan approach for the 36-year-old in the January transfer window.
“Jermain has got a big future here.”
Jermain Defoe has been able to find the back of the net throughout his footballing career, so it comes as no surprise that Sunderland were eyeing a January move.
Although, with Eddie Howe still seeing him as a valuable member of his squad at the Vitality, it appears as if the Black Cats will have to turn their attention elsewhere.
