And it may not be the only thing the Citizens lose this weekend with the Daily Mirror reporting that Micah Richards is set for the exit doors.
Reports suggest that the former England international defender was last night locked in talks with Sunderland regarding a season-long loan deal.
His exit from Manchester City has been well documented this summer with the club deciding that he would be sold after he refused a new deal.
However, no club has been willing to match his £8 million transfer valuation so it now looks like he will be forced to go out on loan.
West Ham United have also been keeping tabs on the defender but it is more likely that Sunderland will match the majority of his wages.
And City are hoping that the deal will also include a clause that would see the Black Cats pay around £4 million if they make the move permanent next summer.
This would be a deal similar to the one Gareth Barry agreed upon before signing for Everton.
Sunderland fans. Would you be happy to see Richards come in on-loan or are his wages too high? Let us know your thoughts below.
