The Football Transfer Tavern’s favourite manager Paolo Di Canio is set to continue his summer spending at Sunderland by bidding for Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone, according to the Express.
Di Canio celebrated his birthday this week with his sixth and seventh summer signings in the form of Jozy Altidore and El-Hadji Ba but the Italian is still not happy that with his squad and wants Huddlestone to shore up his midfield.
The former Derby County man has seen his first team chances at Tottenham diminish in recent seasons and is now behind the likes of Paulinho, Mousa Dembele, Sandro and Scott Parker in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Spurs are looking to shift a few squad players this summer and would want just £5 million for the England international who needs to revive his career.
The 26-year-old still has plans to push his way back into the England squad and so needs to play first team football; which he would get at the Stadium of Light; especially with a World Cup coming at the end of this season.
Should Tom Huddlestone move to the Black Cats this summer to reinvigorate his career? Let us know your thoughts below.
