Sunderland’s one proven goalscorer wants out already

Jermain DefoeOur landlord here at the Football Transfer Tavern notes that Sunderland fans have been few and far between since their nightmare start to the season.

And the news coming out of the Mirror is hardly expected to bring them back out any time soon.

The publication claims that Sunderland’s one ray of hope perhaps is looking to leave the club, just seven months after signing on the dotted line at the Stadium of Light.

Yes, Jermain Defoe is looking for a move once again, apparently back down south after failing to settle in the north East.

Whether it has something to do with the team’s dreadful form and horrendous start to the season is not stated, although we can harbour a pretty good guess that it may have something to do with it.

Sunderland have already sold striker Connor Wickham during this transfer window, and now look as though they face a battle to keep their one proven Premier League goalscorer before the close of the transfer window.

As one punter notes when you’re at the bottom, it never rains, it pours.
