The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham Hostpur’s Gareth Bale is top of Barcelona’s list for the transfer window. The newspaper said that Bale is, “the ideal long-term replacement for 32-year-old left back Abidal”, who is currently recovering from a liver transplant.
Is there any truth in this rumour?
Considering that Tottenham are a club which are moving forward at an alarming rate, it would be hard to envision a starting eleven player move to a club where he might struggle to get first team action. However, if Bale does get first team action for Barcelona, it would be his original position of left back. Would Bale sacrifice his favoured position in order to move to Barcelona, the home of the Champions League holders?
Bale recently said:
“If you said to any young player that you could play for Barcelona or Real would they turn it down? Probably not.”
So while it is clear that Bale would love to move Barcelona, the Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy, said that they would only accept of around £45 million.
