The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure if Leicester’s valuation of one of their transfer targets is a very late April fools or not.
It has finally happened. The footballing world has gone completely mad.
Reports from the Telegraph have revealed that Leicester City are telling Chelsea to hand over the £40 million they received for Nemanja Matic if they want to bring Danny Drinkwater to the club.
In weather and reports have suggested Hell looks set to freeze over any day now.
£40 million for Danny Drinkwater?!
16 years ago, Zinedine Zidane became the most expensive player in the world when he joined Real Madrid from Juventus for a fee of £46 million.
£6 million more than Leicester want for a failed Manchester United academy player who has one good season under his belt.
Only eight years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Madrid for £80 million and the one-time Premier League champions want half of that for the Chelsea target.
It is tough to blame Leicester and they know, just like every other club in the country knows, how desperate Antonio Conte is to make signings before the summer window closes.
It isn’t necessarily angering our landlord that Leicester have put this price tag on the midfielder, it just angers him that he can easily see Chelsea paying up.
If that happens we will live in a world where a painfully, painfully average player who won’t even get into the Chelsea first team will sell for around four times the amount he is worth.
Who knows where this transfer saga will go but if this deal does go through, our landlord can’t wait for ITV to make ’20 Football Transfers That Shocked The World 2’ because this one will be sure to make it.
