Klopp was renowned at Borussia Dortmund for his fluid style of play, which combined a high work-rate and fast tempo to reap the rewards; which included knocking Bayern Munich off their perch at the top of the Bundesliga for two consecutive seasons.
Whilst many expect the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Nathaniel Clyne to be a crucial part of Klopp’s new-look Liverpool, data revealed by EA Sports’ Player Performance Index actually show veteran midfielder James Milner could be the integral cog in the machine.
Covering more ground than any player in the Premier League since his free transfer from Manchester City over the summer, accumulating close to 100km already this term, Milner has quickly settled into life on Merseyside.
So much so that Milner boasts a higher work-rate in each of his eight Premier League appearances than any other Liverpool player, with 12.051km against Stoke City on the opening day being the lowest of his numbers- but it still puts him ahead of any other effort by a Liverpool man.
These numbers are certain to impress Klopp ahead of his first game as a Premier League manager, whilst our regulars at the bar have raised their pints in recognition to Milner’s fine efforts for the Reds.
