The Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern are hoping the future of Alexis Sanchez will be resolved sooner rather than later.
Alexis Sanchez’s transfer saga has been one of the longest in recent memory, but a resolution has finally been reached. A conclusion to the saga has delighted our punters, and despite months of speculation linking the Chile international to Manchester City, Sanchez opted for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Sanchez’s destination could significantly impact on Arsenal’s success for the remainder of the season, as United included the talented Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the deal.
Although Mkhitaryan has struggled to prove himself in the English top-flight, the Armenian’s history in European football suggests he is more than worth taking a chance on in Arsenal’s current situation. Indeed, The Guardian recently claimed that Mkhitaryan was scouted by Sven Mislintat whilst he was at Borussia Dortmund – a factor which Wenger could use to his advantage now he’s made the switch to Arsenal.
During Mkhitaryan’s final season at Dortmund, he scored a staggering 23 goals and provided 32 assists in 52 appearances for the club, so there can be no doubt that his full potential is yet to be realised in the Premier League.
However, this could all change following a transfer to The Emirates, as Mislintat – now working as Arsenal’s head of recruitment – should have a very good understanding of Mkhitaryan’s core strengths from his time spent scouting the Armenian. If Mislintat works closely with Wenger to help the Arsenal manager appreciate how to squeeze the best form out of Mkhitaryan, then Arsenal may end up with an excellent value for money replacement for Sanchez.
The move for Mkhitaryan will undoubtedly be a risk for Wenger, but the fact that Mislintat is at the club should take a significant edge off that risk and give Arsenal every chance of concluding a very shrewd piece of business.
