Swansea City boss responds to Arsenal speculation

laudrup.jpgPunters in the Football Transfer Tavern are mostly agreeing with the claims from Metro who note that Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup is not impressed with the current length of the summer transfer window.

The window stays open throughout the start of the season and can lead to issues should players move right at the end of the window leaving it near on impossible for adequate replacements to be found.

Jose Mourinho and Paul Lambert have both spoken about this in recent days, yet Laudrup is more concerned than most given Arsenal are constantly linked to star forward Michu and key defender Ashley Williams.

The Swans manager noted: “It’s part of the game and as long as the rules are like that we get on with it.

“I went to the Premier League managers’ meeting last week and one of the questions asked was why we could not move the transfer deadline, what is the reason to have it close after we have started the season here and in Spain and Germany?

“The answer was that in the other big leagues there was not a lot of interest in moving it.

“I cannot understand why not, because every manager should be interested in having the deadline closed when they play the first game.

“It would do huge damage if we lose players of the quality of Michu and Ashley because we have to find replacements at the same level and we can’t do that too late.”

Of course, plenty of our punters in the tavern agree with this, and fully understand where Laudrup is coming from. Deadline day may be exciting for us all to watch on the tavern’s large projector, but for mangers  it can be a total nightmare and leave them in the lurch – just as Laudrup was claiming.

There is no point selling your star man for £50 million when you have no chance of getting someone else in – and it seems clear that Arsene Wenger will have to look elsewhere for players this summer as Michu and Williams are seemingly going nowhere.

Do Swansea City have nothing to worry about this summer? Will Michu and Williams remain at the Liberty Stadium? Let us know your thoughts below.
