A big part of Swansea success this season has been the creative heart of the team, Gylfi Sigurdsson. Sigurdson has 3 goal in 7 games, and has been an ever present in the team since he joined on loan in January.
Swans Boos is desperate to turn the player’s loan deal into a permanent move, but has been told by Hoffenheim (Sigurdsson’s parent club) that he’ll have to cough up £6 million. No small change for the likes of Swansea, who’s previous biggest transfer fee is £3.5 million.
Swansea need to find the money and quickly if they don’t want Sigurdson being snapped up by someone else. At just 22, Sigurdsson’s form (and my ever reliable scouting system – Football Manager) indicate he has a bright future in the game, and has drawn the attention of Villa, Newly-moneyed Malaga, and even Italian Giants Juve and Inter!
Despite Gylfi saying he is happy at the club,
surely Swansea face an uphill battle to retain the player with those bigger name clubs circling. A reminder of the transfer struggles less glamorous teams face, even when you do find a top quality player you can afford, there’s a huge chance he’ll move on. Still Swans fans will hope his good times at the club this season, and his close relationship with Manager Rodgers, may be enough to see Glyfi stay.
