Liverpool supporters have been slightly despondent in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side concede a late leveller to end up drawing 1-1 with bitter rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Toffees off the back of recording three successive victories in all competitions, and they looked set for a fourth when Mohamed Salah brilliantly gave them the lead just before half time. However, they were to be denied a ninth Premier League win of the campaign as Dejan Lovren clumsily felled Dominic Calvert-Lewin, allowing Wayne Rooney to step up and slot home the resulting spot-kick to preserve a point for Sam Allardyce’s side, a result which kept them in the top half of the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been several downbeat Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and their mood is unlikely to improve if a recent report from Don Balon is anything to go by, as they suggest that Real Madrid are planning a swap deal in a bid to lure in-form Salah to the Bernabeu in January.
The Egypt international only made the move to Anfield back in the summer after impressing at Italian giants Roma, and he has since hit the ground running with 19 goals in just 24 games for Klopp’s side, including a league-high 13 in the Premier League.
And the 25-year-old’s sensational run of form reportedly attracted the interest of Zinedine Zidane’s Real last month, and they could look to up the ante as reports suggest that they looking to offer winger Lucas Vazquez plus cash to lure Salah to the Bernabeu in the New Year.
26-year-old Vazquez had managed just five starts in La Liga for the Spanish giants so far this term and as such it appears that his future is away from Madrid, but whether Klopp and Liverpool entertain the idea of swapping Salah for the winger, alongside some money, very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Mohamed Salah has made a sensational start to life at Liverpool, having scored 19 goals in just 24 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s men since making the move from Roma during the summer.
And it appears that the 25-year-old has already attracted interest from other top European clubs, with Real Madrid reportedly seeking a player-plus-cash deal for the Egypt international, involving winger Lucas Vazquez.
But given how resolute the Reds were regarding Philippe Coutinho’s proposed move to Barcelona over the summer, the Spanish giants will find it tough persuading the Merseysiders to part with one of their prized assets, especially one that only moved to the club during the close season.
