Newcastle United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have already had a summer to forget following the controversial arrival of new director of football Joe Kinnear which has left uncertainty about the future of manager Alan Pardew.
With the former Wimbledon manager now in charge of recruitment, Magpies supporters are eagerly awaiting to witness the club’s activity in the summer transfer window.
Today’s Guardian gives an indication of strategy to the fans after the publication suggests that the Magpies are lining up bids for Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent and relegated QPR striker Loic Remy as they look to strengthen their strikeforce.
Bent has been left out of Aston Villa’s pre-season tour of Germany and he will be leaving during the transfer window while Remy could join in a swap-deal for centre back and local hero Steven Taylor who has struggled with injuries in the last few campaigns.
Pardew is reported as saying: “Both of those players are on our list. I make no bones about that. But they are under contract at other clubs. It’s difficult, you have to be careful. It’s nice for our fans to hear names but I don’t want to disrupt other clubs’ preparations.
“We have a list of four or five strikers who will push [Papiss] Cissé, Shola [Ameobi], Adam Campbell and Yoan Gouffran because that will be important next season. We do need two strikers. Last season, I didn’t think there was enough competition in that area for a Premier League team.”
Which striker are Newcastle more likely to land? Surely they won’t part with local hero Steven Taylor? Let us know your thoughts below.
