The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big changes with regards to their goalkeeping situation this summer…
However, it would appear as one player is hoping for relative normality when it comes to next season – with 35-year-old veteran Willy Caballero seemingly keen to secure a new contract ahead of next year. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and speaking about whether he would like a new deal, via Goal, the Argentine said: “Yes, yes of course…It’s an amazing team and club with fantastic players so I think every player wants to stay in my position”.
In truth, it is probably fair to say that Caballero is unlikely to be a regular feature for Man City after this season. He has done a job when called upon, but a Premier League title challenge is likely to be demanded by the Man City board next season, and so a new goalkeeper will likely come in in order to make that target more feasible.
Claudio Bravo hasn’t really been up to par this year, whilst Joe Hart’s career at Man City looks over. That being said, a backup role for Caballero could suit both parties, meaning that an extension could still be forthcoming. Guardiola will, of course, have the last decision on the matter.
