Arsenal’s campaign next season could go one of two ways. A new manager could come in and completely revolutionise the club, leading to huge success, or the club could have to navigate choppy waters as they look to move on from Arsene Wenger.
Whatever the case, it’s clear that the Gunners need to be preparing for the future, and so utilising a few of their talented youngsters will surely be a part of the remit of the next Arsenal boss.
One player that, undoubtedly, should be under consideration is young Reiss Nelson.
Granted, the one position in which Arsenal are blessed with quality is up-front, but that doesn’t mean that Nelson wouldn’t be able to do a job. It’s not like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have been unstoppable this season. There is scope for both to improve, and there is undoubtedly a small opening for another forward to stake his claim. Not to mention, Nelson is also capable of playing behind the strikers, and there’s certainly room for him there.
Naturally, he wouldn’t likely start every week, but it’s important to have multiple options going forward, and with Arsenal likely to prioritise the league next season, perhaps cup competitions will allow him a chance to strut his stuff.
In terms of what he can do, he’s able to play both in midfield and attack, and he loves to make use of his brilliant pace, technique and goalscoring ability to fire his teams to victory.
He’s been directly involved in 10 goals in 10 games in the Premier League 2 this season, and that should highlight just how efficient he is in front of goal.
At 18-years-old, he has the potential to get even better than he already is, and Arsenal must look to harness his ability sooner, rather than later. There’s never been a better time to try out the youth at the Emirates, and there’s never been a better opportunity to get Nelson in the team in particular.
