Following the rise of Andreas Christensen this season, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that another young player will make the grade at Stamford Bridge.
Fortunately, there are several incredibly talented young players that have the potential to make the grade at Stamford Bridge, and arguably the brightest prospect is young Ethan Ampadu.
Brought to Stamford Bridge from Exeter, the Welshman has had a few first-team opportunities this season, but next season he needs to be getting far more. Indeed, Chelsea could seriously benefit from making him a regular and full-time first-team mainstay.
After all, the Welshman has everything that it takes to succeed at the highest level. Despite his youth, the 17-year-old is fantastically confident in his ability, and he has looked right at home amongst some of Chelsea’s more seasoned veterans.
Able to play in both defence and midfield, he’s a brilliant tackler, whilst his passing is also fantastic. Surprisingly composed for a player of his age, it’s truly easy to forget just how young he is.
Fortunately for him, Chelsea do have a need for a player of his ilk. The Blues are short on defensive quality in midfield, whilst you could even make a case for him to become Chelsea’s deep-lying playmaker in place of Cesc Fabregas too. In defence, Gary Cahill is struggling, and so Ampadu could well be seen as the perfect long-term replacement for him.
There’s no reason why Ampadu can’t get more opportunities next season, and if he does, Chelsea will definitely benefit.
