Talented: The 1 Man Utd youngster that must be a first team regular next season

Jose Mourinho has taken Man Utd to the next level, but now our resident Red Devils want the Portuguese to add a bit of youth to his team.

In the past, Mourinho has often favoured older and more experienced options, but as a club with a rich history of youth development, he simply must evolve at Old Trafford.

Fortunately, the summer transfer window could provide Mourinho with an opportunity to rebuild the team somewhat, and perhaps that could happen in the form of a youth promotion or two.

One player that certainly has the potential to be in the first team is young Angel Gomes, and our landlord thinks that he would arguably be an even better option than Juan Mata next season.

Mata, of course, has not been a regular in the starting eleven this season, with Mourinho rarely opting to utilise him from the start in successive weeks. As a player that relies on his technical ability above all else, his lack of mobility and defensive pedigree doesn’t suit Mourinho’s style. Not to mention, at 30-years-old, he’s hardly the spring chicken that he once was.

For Gomes’ part, his youthful exuberance could be just what Mourinho is looking for. Like Mata, he has incredible technical ability, but he uses it to very different effect. With brilliant pace and dribbling, the young Englishman loves to drive towards goal and make things happen – and the burst of energy and pace that he provides would be right at home in the Man Utd first team.

He was directly involved in 5 goals during Man Utd’s UEFA Youth League run, and that’s a testament to his quality going forward.

Next season, then, it would make sense to get Gomes involved in the first team – even if his arrival in the squad comes at the expense of Juan Mata.
