Talks begin: Liverpool make moves to sign up established international

Simon MignoletLiverpool fans getting in a few rounds in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their League Cup quarter-final this evening are pleasantly surprised to see their club making big moves in the market.

The Guardian declares that Jurgen Klopp has shown his faith in goalkeeper Simon Mignolet by opening talks with the Belgian regarding a new deal.

27-year-old Mignolet is currently tied down until 2018 but can expect a £60k pay rise on his new deal, as Klopp confirmed to the media that he’s not in the market for a new goalkeeper.

“It is a good moment to talk about the goalkeepers at Liverpool. I am absolutely satisfied with our goalkeeping situation. I am sorry to kill your stories about goalkeepers. We are not looking for another goalkeeper.”

“We have enough high-quality goalkeepers, I’ve had a lot of goalkeepers over the last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have ever had. He is completely open and he’s young enough to develop, to improve. He’s not had the easiest situation before I came here, but since I have been here there has been nothing to criticise, absolutely nothing.”

Fans at the bar are pleased by Klopp’s confidence in the Belgian, who they feel has tremendously improved since the start of the new season and deserves the show of faith.
