Talks coming: Jose Mourinho reportedly has big plans for 22-year-old at Man Utd

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Jose Mourinho can get his side to gel over the coming weeks. The Red Devils have stumbled a bit as of late, with Man City currently running away with the Premier League title.

There is certainly enough quality at Old Trafford to challenge the Citizens at the top of the table, with a number of Europe’s best players currently on display under Mourinho. From Paul Pogba to Alexis Sanchez, there is no shortage of class at Old Trafford.

Indeed, for Jose Mourinho, there is arguably too much high-quality talent at Man Utd now, with a few players likely to be frustrated at their current roles in the squad. Anthony Martial, for example, has seen his significance diminish somewhat in favour of Alexis Sanchez. Nonetheless, in the case of the Frenchman, a long-term stint at Old Trafford is what Jose Mourinho wants from him – at least according to the Sun.

The Sun is reporting that Mourinho is keen to hold talks with Martial to reassure him over his future, despite the emergence of Alexis Sanchez in his favoured left-hand side position. Indeed, Mourinho is said to view him as an important player in his squad, with the Portuguese clearly having big plans for the Frenchman.

Sanchez, of course, moved to Man Utd in January, and whilst Anthony Martial had impressed in the weeks leading up to his arrival, the Chilean quickly moved ahead of the Frenchman in the pecking order. Whether that’s right or wrong is up to interpretation, but it will undoubtedly raise concern in the eyes of Martial.

Mourinho, though, clearly still values him highly – and with good reason. He has been a real force down the left-hand side this term, and there is surely still room for improvement for him at Old Trafford.

Landlord’s Verdict

Anthony Martial is often an underrated member of the Man Utd first team. He’s a consistent attacker, and whilst he may not have lived up to the hype that won him the Golden Boy award, he’s still got time to improve.

He needs to play, that much is certain, and Sanchez’s arrival will no doubt eat into his minutes. Mourinho needs to find a way to fit them both in, though.
