Talks reportedly held as Tottenham seek to usurp heavyweight rivals in winger chase

Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team record a fourth Premier League win in five matches with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Everton at Wembley on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the out-of-form Toffees off the back of a 3-0 success over AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup, and prior to that they were unbeaten in four league matches to move back into fifth place in the table. And Spurs kept the pressure on those above them as a brace from Harry Kane as well as goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen secured an easy win over Sam Allardyce’s side, in turn moving the North London outfit to within three points of Liverpool and Chelsea.

Subsequently, there have been many happy Spurs fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from L’Equipe, which suggests that their club are in the running to sign Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain this month.

The 25-year-old made the move to the French giants back in 2013 after beginning his professional career in his homeland with Sao Paulo, and he has since gone from strength to strength with 229 appearances for the club, netting 46 goals and laying on 50 assists in the process.

But with just five Ligue 1 games to show for his efforts so far this term, his future has been subject of speculation in the lead up to the January window, and recent reports suggest that Pochettino’s Spurs are in talks with the European heavyweights over a possible loan deal this month.

But with Manchester United also thought to be interested, it very much remains to be seen whether the North London side can get a deal done for the supremely talented winger.

Landlord’s verdict: Lucas Moura’s struggles for regular first team football at Paris Saint-Germain this season were always likely to attract interest ahead of this month’s transfer window, and that is exactly what has happened.

Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with the 25-year-old, but recent reports suggest that Tottenham are seeking to usurp their heavyweight rivals in pursuit of the Brazil international by reportedly holding talks with the French club over a possible move.

And while this is likely to come as a big boost to Spurs fans, it’s not going to be easy given their club’s desire for a loan deal opposed to PSG’s want to permanently get rid of the winger.

Thus, while Tottenham are in the race, it very much remains to be seen whether they can do a deal for Moura this month.
