‘Talks’ reportedly underway as Tottenham star closes on January departure

Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side ease past AFC Wimbledon 3-0 in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, thus earning them a trip to League Two outfit Newport County in round four.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have not won a trophy since lifting the League Cup back in 2008, a drought now longer than North London rivals Arsenal’s infamous spell between 2005 and 2014. However, Spurs moved a step closer to FA Cup glory with a comfortable win over Neal Ardley’s Dons, with a brace from Harry Kane as well as Jan Vertonghen’s first goal since 2013 proving to be too much for the League One side, earning Pochettino’s men a trip to Newport in the last 32 after they overcame Championship outfit Leeds United at Rodney Parade.

Thus, there have been many satisfied Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which suggests that Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is set to leave the club this month to join Burnley on loan.

The 22-year-old made the move to Spurs back in 2016 but has struggled to force his way into Pochettino’s regular first team plans, earning just 23 appearances for the club in the last 18 months or so, just nine of which have come in the Premier League.

And with just six senior games for the North London side this term, the former France youth international looks set for further frustration post-January, yet recent reports suggest that ‘talks’ are underway between them and fellow top-flight side Burnley regarding a loan move for the winger.

And with first team opportunities expected to be hard to come by for Nkoudou at Wembley, it’s a move which appears to be in his best interests.

Landlord’s verdict: It hasn’t quite worked out for Georges-Kevin Nkoudou since his move to Tottenham back in 2016, with just nine Premier League appearances (none of them starts) to show for his efforts in North London.

But first team football could be on the horizon for the 22-year-old as reports suggest that ‘talks’ are underway with Burnley regarding taking the youngster on loan for the rest of the campaign, with Clarets chief Sean Dyche clearly seeking to strengthen in a bid to maintain their lofty seventh place position.

And given how highly-rated Dyche is and the incredible job he has done at Turf Moor, Nkoudou is sure to learn a lot from what could be a hugely fruitful loan spell for the Frenchman.
