Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 11 matches with a 5-0 thrashing of basement side Swansea City at Anfield on Boxing Day.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the managerless Swans off the back of winning six and drawing four of their preceding ten league games, a run of form that propelled them back into the division’s top four. And they retained their position in fourth with an easy win over the South Wales outfit on Tuesday, with a brace from Roberto Firmino as well as strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain enough to secure a comprehensive success for the Reds, in turn setting them up perfectly for their home encounter with Leicester City on Saturday.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from ESPN, which suggests that Wolfsburg are looking to make striker Divock Origi’s move to the Bundesliga outfit permanent.
The 22-year-old made the move to the German club on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window, and has certainly proven his worth to the side with four goals in 15 league matches, helping them to 12th place in the division.
And Wolfsburg seem to be impressed with the Belgium international as reports suggest that ‘talks’ are underway regarding the permanent transfer of Origi, with the 22-year-old clearly doing enough to suggest that he could be a key player for the club going forward.
However, it very much remains to be seen whether Liverpool are indeed willing to let the forward leave permanently in the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Divock Origi was always going to struggle to dispose the likes of Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah from the Liverpool starting eleven this season, so a loan move to Wolfsburg appeared to be his best option to further his development.
And with four goals in 15 games, alongside many impressive displays, it’s clearly working for the 22-year-old, and the German side are reportedly seeking to land him permanently by opening ‘talks’ with the Reds over a possible move.
Yet with the uncertainty surrounding the future of Coutinho and indeed Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may see Origi playing a big part at Anfield in years to come, thus leaving this particular transfer saga finely poised going into 2018.
