Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are dreading the start of the new season with the club in a mess following a dismal 2018.

The Blues missed out on a place in the top four of the Premier League, missing out on Champions League football next year. Despite lifting the FA Cup, Antonio Conte is facing the sack despite winning the title in his first season on English shores. Former Napoli boss, Maurizio Sarri, has been lined up as his replacement but the Italians are proving difficult to negotiate with.

As a result of the managerial mess, no new signings have arrived at Stamford Bridge. Our punters are worried with the transfer window closing on August 9, just two days before the Premier League season starts. News of Paris St Germain’s interest in N’Golo Kante adds insult to injury.

The Frenchman has been a key player for the Blues since leaving Leicester and would be sorely missed in the engine room. To replace him, Chelsea must do everything in their power to sign Lyon powerhouse – Tanguy Ndombele. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, he would be an excellent replacement for their talisman.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of France’s hottest prospects after impressing at Lyon last season. He made 47 appearances for his side last season, scoring one goal and notching six assists in all competitions. Comfortable at centre or defensive midfield, he will add some much-needed steel to the Chelsea midfield.

Prising him away from Lyon will prove difficult, but it simply must be done if Kante leaves.

Chelsea fans, thoughts?
