Manchester United

Team For Tonight – Newcastle Utd

There was once a time when Manchester United versus Newcastle United could be called a clash of the titans. A decade and a half later newly-promoted Newcastle look all but underdogs for the game as Alex Ferguson’s side hopes to emulate Chelsea’s goal laden start to the season.

Here’s the expected Newcastle line-up.

Formation: 4-5-1

Goalkeeper: Steve Harper

Shay Given kept a clean sheet in this fixture two seasons ago. Harper will hope to pull off a similar virtuoso performance.

Right back: James Perch

Surprise signing from Chris Houghton, brought in from Nottingham Forest. Looks set to keep Danny Simpson out of the starting line-up and couldn’t pick a better game to make his name for the magpies.

Centre Back: Fabricio Coloccini

Following a poor first season for Newcastle, Coloccini followed up with a solid Championship campaign. It’s time for the Argentinian to prove his worth.

Centre Back: Mike Williamson

Signed from Portsmouth at the beginning of the year and will be looking to carry on his good form. Podge Campbell still doesn’t look in contention with ‘big bones’ still ruling the big man out.

Left Back: Jose Enrique

The fans player of the season will start at left back. Pushing forward is a big part of Enrique’s game, but whether he’ll get a chance to against Man United is yet to be seen.

Right Midfield: Wayne Routledge

Will hope to put past Premier League disappointments behind him with the Toon.

Centre Midfield: Danny Guthrie

The former Liverpool man provides stability in the middle of the park and is another that shined in Newcastle’s promotion campaign.

Centre midfield: Joey Barton

‘Bad Boy For Life’ is back in the Premier League and promises to behave. We’ll see.

Centre Midfield: Kevin Nolan (Captain)

Nolan completes the centre of midfield which will hope to congest the middle of the large Old Trafford pitch.

Left Midfield: Jonas Guttierez

Looks to bounce back from a poor World Cup display. Maybe Guttierez can match his pace with a bit of quality. Maybe not.

Centre Forward: Andy Carroll

Newcastle have invested a lot of hope in their home grown youngster. Maybe tonight we can find out if he could seriously contend for an England place.
