The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern had been hoping that their side would enter the summer break with a clean bill of health, but unfortunately for them, that does not look set to be the case…
As confirmed by Bleacher Report, Chelsea’s star midfielder Eden Hazard has suffered an injury blow whilst away with Belgium on international duty, and to make matters worse – it could have a real impact on the Blues’ summer preparations.
The diagnosis for Hazard is said to be an ankle fracture – and the Belgian could be set to miss up to 3 months of action as a result.

This is awful news for the Blues, particularly given his estimated period of recovery. 3 months would place a return sometime in September, meaning that it is likely that Hazard could miss several weeks of Premier League action. Perhaps more significantly, the injury will force him out of the entirety of Chelsea’s pre-season preparations – meaning that his return could be put back even further as he looks to return to fitness.
Given how reliant Chelsea were on Hazard for much of the 2016/17 campaign, Antonio Conte will certainly need to work his magic to ensure that he is able to manoeuvre around this situation. Luckily for him, Willian is a ready-made replacement, meaning that he should be able to ensure strong team selection without investment.
