Most of the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting their side to win the Premier League last season, but their chances of retaining it are, naturally, far lower.
Every single one of their rivals in the Premier League will be out to get them, and so it’s crucial that the Citizens improve their squad this summer in an effort to remain on top.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that City are closing in on a move for Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez, with the Foxes apparently reducing their demands for the player. However, one slight roadblock could come in the form of agent’s terms – with Kia Joorabchian, who is Mahrez’s agent, a difficult to man to negotiate with.
The Citizens previously had trouble with him when he was Carlos Tevez’s agent, and so they know all too well how hard he is to deal with.
Man City have shown an increasing unwillingness to bend to the plans of other clubs, and that’s why this deal has been held up for so long. It remains to be seen as to whether this is an issue that will escalate or whether it will be easier than expected, but it’s fair to say that the next few days could be important for the Citizens.
Man City’s attack is fantastic, but even more quality would be far better for them.
Mahrez is proven in the Premier League, and let’s not forget he’s also a Premier League winner – and so he should be able to handle the pressure of a big move to the Etihad.
He won’t be cheap, particularly if agent fees prove to be a problem, but this is a big step forward for the club.
It’s tough to imagine the problems being enough to prevent this deal from happening, especially if both clubs are eager to find an agreement.
