‘Thank you, Klopp’ – Liverpool fans are delighted with early news ahead of Porto game

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for the return of the Champions League. They’ve looked good in the competition so far this season, and given their history, many are hoping for a long run.

Standing in their way, though, are Porto. The Portuguese giants, though not as strong as they once were, won’t be an easy team to beat, and so Jurgen Klopp will need to get his tactics and team selection spot on.

In the case of the latter, it appears as though one major decision has already been made by the German, at least according to the Liverpool Echo. They’re reporting that Loris Karius is set to start ahead of Simon Mignolet for the game and for the foreseeable future, with Klopp clearly seeking a bit more consistency between the sticks.

Karius has, of course, played regularly recently after Klopp made the decision to drop Simon Mignolet. Mignolet’s flaws have been discussed in depth over the last few months, and it’s clear that he isn’t good enough to remain between the sticks long-term. Karius, meanwhile, has also not been perfect, but clearly Klopp has seen enough to give him an extended chance.

It’s a bold decision, given Mignolet’s experience and the heightened significance of the Champions League, but Klopp – if this news turns out to be legitimate, of course – clearly has faith.

Unsurprisingly, given the mixed views on Mignolet, this report has gone down well amongst Liverpool fans, with supporters taking to the Liverpool Subreddit page over on Reddit to discuss the news. In truth, there is unanimous delight amongst the Reds online – with Karius clearly a popular choice with fans.

Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…

Karius certainly isn’t one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but fans clearly recognise not only his potential, but also his ability to pull out a good performance when needed. Now it’s up to him to back up the Liverpool fans’ faith – and Jurgen Klopp’s – with a solid performance.
