Manchester United have headed off into the summer in good spirits following their Europa League win and subsequent return to the Champions League.
The Red Devils enjoyed a season of getting back in the groove so to speak under Jose Mourinho, and despite only finishing sixth in the league table, they were very much looking like getting back to the Man United of old at times under their new gaffer.
The United fans here in the Tavern this weekend have been soaking up some of their success, and plenty of chat has turned to the summer and the incomings and outgoings expected at the club.
With plenty of mentions about the future of David De Gea in the press, our landlord thinks a replacement ‘keeper could be on the list, and one man he thinks could do a job is current Southampton number one Fraser Forster.
The 29-year-old England man, who is valued at £12.75m by website Transfermarkt, has become one of the most consistent stoppers in the Premier League, and still should have his best years ahead of him.
Forster is a goalkeeper of very sound ability, he controls his box well, and he is a commanding presence to the rest of his teammates too. While he might not be everyone’s obvious choice, he would definitely be a good replacement for De Gea and would no doubt rise to the challenge of playing at Old Trafford.
United fans, what do you think? Would you take Forster? Let us know in the comments!
