There’s been a summer of change down at Selhurst Park for Crystal Palace despite the Eagles not even having made a signing!
The club decided the Dutch manager Frank De Boer would be the right man to take the club forward long-term and the pressure is now on his shoulders to bring in the right players to ensure the club don’t find themselves in relegation trouble next time out.
The core of the team needs beefing up and after his superb loan spell at the club last season, we’d love to see Palace make a permanent attempt to sign £12million-rated Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho.
Of course, the main stumbling block for the Eagles will be wages, but if that could be negotiated, as we saw last season, they’d be bringing in quite the player indeed.
The French defender, who is badly out-of-favour at Liverpool having fallen out with manager Jurgen Klopp, added some much-needed metal in the Palace backline last season as they looked to scrape their way away from the relegation zone.
And with the help of the Frenchman they did just that under the guidance of Big Sam, who proceded to leave the club at the end of the campaign after guiding his side to safety.
Sakho is now back at Liverpool but with his Reds future still in doubt, there’s thought that amongst the Palace fans here in the pub that a move back to Selhurst Park really makes sense.
Palace’s ambitious appointment of De Boer suggests that they’re looking up not down next season.
