Manchester United are well renowned for being one of the best teams in the world and with that, comes a certainly responsibility as a player.
The Red Devils should be the best on the world stage, with the country’s brightest individuals turning out for them week-in, week-out. Of course, since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Old Trafford departure, the standard of football at the club has come under repeated criticism, whether it was David Moyes, Louis van Gaal or now Jose Mourinho at the helm.
And one man that has had his fair share of criticism over the past few months is Argentine defender Marcos Rojo who, before Mourinho took over, was being cited as one of the worst defenders United have ever had in their ranks.
Of course, at times, there were real questions hanging over the £16million-rated man’s ability to compete at this level but the defender has more than proved his doubters wrong, turning in some exemplary performances last season as United won two pieces of silverware.
Criticism when you’re playing at this level is natural, whilst it’s also expected when you are turning out for Manchester United every week. But Rojo is a player that has gone in a full circle and over the past few weeks, has looked so solid in the United back four.
His tackling, interceptions and vision all seem to have improved tenfold and he’s your typical example of a player that after some criticism, has really begun stepping up.
He now needs to continue his good form going into next season and it’s vital that Mourinho keeps him on his toes, if he’s to remain a part of first-team plans.
But the signs with Rojo are seriously promising and right now, you wouldn’t be able to argue that the 27-year-old is on-track to become one of United’s best defenders at the club.
United fans- have you been impressed with Rojo’s turnaround? Leave your thoughts down below!
