Leicester City head into the summer transfer window in a completely different mindset to that of last year, where they splashed the cash as league champions to prepare for European football.
Now managed by Craig Shakespeare, the glorious Premier League win under Claudio Ranieri seems somewhat a distant memory, and the Foxes fans here in the Tavern are making sure to savour every last drop of their famous title win while they can.
Having already signed Harry Maguire this summer, Leicester will no doubt want a few more new faces, and sticking with players in the Championship could be a smart strategy.
Our landlord concurs, and one player he thinks could make the step up in class is current Fulham man Tom Cairney, valued at £5.95m on Transfermarkt.
The classy former Hull City youngster was an absolute revelation last season for the Cottagers, racking up a ton of goals and assists as he led his team to the playoffs where they lost to Reading over two legs.
However, this playoff failure should not detract from Cairney’s quality, and a move to a club like Leicester could well be what he needs to take his career to the next level.
Capable of playing across the midfield and with a real eye for goal, Cairney would suit the top flight, and would add something to the Foxes which they definitely lack.
Cairney will no doubt be in high demand, but if Leicester want to compete again in the top half, then signing someone like Cairney could be the ideal move.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
