It’s been another difficult week for Tottenham fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, who were getting a few nervy drinks in before tonight’s Europa League clash with Benfica.
Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge was another painful defeat at the home of one of this season’s top four, an exclusive club Spurs look set to miss out on once again this season.
The defeat at Stamford Bridge left them trailing fourth placed Manchester City by four points – whilst Manuel Pellegrini’s side also have three games in hand.
The frank manner in which Tim Sherwood spoke after the defeat at Stamford Bridge confirmed the current problems at White Hart Lane, and the Spurs boss has had more to say on possible summer departures this week.
“It’s come to a stage where we have to start looking at pre-season,” Sherwood said ahead of tonight’s clash with Benfica.
“I’m the one planning it at the moment and looking at different personnel. The boys here have an opportunity to prove that they want to stay. If not, they’ll be moved on and we’ll look for replacements. I know the DNA of the guys and I know the ones I can trust and those I can’t.”
With that in mind, we have identified five players we think will be fighting for their future under Sherwood.
