The Chelsea Revolution Needs Reinforcements

Despite uncertainties over whether Carlo Ancelotti has any intentions of bringing in new players in the last week of the transfer window, rumours have been rife of Chelsea’s ambitions to sign a new defender.

Following Ricardo Carvalho’s departure Chelsea’s defence is one of the areas of the team that would benefit from some reinforcements. This has prompted a great deal of speculation as to whether Carlo is planning a ‘surprise swoop’ for a new defender.

Chelsea’s ideal signing is reported to be Benfica’s David Luiz, though a high price tag has meant that they have been considering other options.

Inter defender Nicolas Burdisso has been linked with a move to Chelsea. He is a player who’s versatility makes him a good choice to provide cover for the Chelsea defence. Aged 29 he would fit in with Ancelotti’s fondness for relying on experienced players over youth.

Inter’s technical director Marco Branca, has stated ‘I can confirm that Burdisso has many admirers in England’, however the Argentina defender’s agent has insisted there had been no contact yet from Chelsea.

Chelsea have been mentioned as one of the clubs who have shown an interest in signing unsettled Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis. After winning the domestic double with Bayern last season the player’s agent Jorge Cyterszpiler has stated that the player ready to begin talks with other clubs following being dropped from the first team.

Cyterszpiler is quoted saying that “There are at least four clubs in for the player, as well as the Bianconeri there are also Barcelona, Chelsea and Sevilla.”

Only time will tell if there is any substance to the speculation surrounding Chelsea’s transfer activity.
