When Jose Mourinho made the decision to return to Chelsea, one thing was clear to us here in the Football Transfer Tavern. The manager would be bringing in a host of players, and whilst not as many as his first spell in charge at the club, there would be more than enough funds to break some records and put a few people’s noses out of joint along the way.
We enjoyed Chelsea doing just that during the transfer window, and now despite the fact that we are in mourning for deadline day and the yellow tie we love so much that is donned by Jim White, we are comforting ourselves by thinking of the transfers that have gone through – and maybe a couple that missed out as well.
Chelsea managed to annoy Tottenham and Andre Villas-Boas with their capture of Wilian, they managed to unsettle Manchester United with their flirtation with Wayne Rooney and even managed to cause Arsene Wenger problems by failing to loan out Demba Ba to the North London club as proposed.
Jose Mourinho may have brought in a fair few players, but there were also some ones that he missed out on, and with that in mind we have put together a starting eleven that Chelsea could have had this season should they have landed all of their transfer targets.
