The Daftest Man In The Premiership On His Way To Tottenham

Emmanuel Eboue, a footballer that evokes many emotions, in most football fans that emotion is normally dislike, and that’s being polite.  I think it is fair to say that even fans of Arsenal don’t exactly like the Ivorian overly.

In the 99th minute or whatever it was in Arsenal’s match with Liverpool on Sunday I think he probably went down a bit further in the fans estimations, and it now seems that his ludicrously clumsy ‘tackle’ on Lucas has secured him an exit from the club.

You could more or less see it in his face as the Sky camera’s showed his personal agony in glorious HD, he knew he had probably cost his club 2 points, but he also knew that he would probably pay the ultimate price and lose his place at the Emirates.  I suppose in many ways, whatever happened on Sunday was immaterial, Eboue has only been a bit part player at Arsenal this season anyway, so to say that his future was decided with that tackle may be a bit sensationalist, but our friends at the Daily Mail reckon that it was the final straw.

They point out that Arsene Wenger publicly defended the player after the game, but he was hardly going to chastise him was he?  An apology for his own behaviour may have been more appropriate in many ways!

The Ivorian has only appeared in 10 league games this season, compared to 25 last term, and 28 the year before that.  Games are pretty few and far between, his chances at right back are massively diminished by the consistent performances of Bakary Sagna so other than the odd cameo on the wing or in the centre of midfield, opportunities are limited.

It was reported recently that Tottenham were monitoring the player with a view to a Summer move, thinking he could be a possible replacement for the up and down Vedran Corluka, how well that would go down with the White Hart Lane faithful I am very unsure about, and at the time that story broke I was pretty sceptical and still am.

There will clearly be a buyer somewhere for the Ivorian full back, he isn’t necessarily a bad player, he just seems to make some bad decisions, and again is another footballer who sometimes just doesn’t think before he acts.  It may be highly uncertain where he will be next Summer, but I am pretty confident his time with the Gunners has come to an end, and surely by now Arsene is sick of giving him a last chance!
